The only real addition of code would be how to associate the icons with the categories in the first place. This would allow easy add/remove of categories and a similar list to calendars where you can a) have hide/show functionality without disable/enable consequences of calendars b) act as a legend to associate icons with categories visually. This could be done in two ways -> add hide show ability to calendars functionality or duplicate calendar functionality to replace the current category system. It still leaves the problem of no way to filter events. It’s current logic is understandable, you want John/Jane/Timmy calendars and enabling/disabling them means that John will never accidentally add to Jane’s calendar but they can share templates (rather genius actually). Using the Calendar feature acts as a great filter to clean it up and only display events of a certain type.
